The ODYSSEUS project proudly participated in the Horizon Border Security Projects workshop hosted by Frontex at its headquarters in Warsaw, Poland, on December 14, 2023. This workshop marked a significant segment of the broader Frontex Innovation Awards event, where the winners in the contest on Detection of Low-Flying Objects, were acknowledged and rewarded.
The primary objective of the workshop was to introduce and showcase five Horizon Border Management projects, namely ODYSSEUS, I-SEAMORE, MELCHIOR, FLEXI-CROSS, and EURMARS, to both Frontex and representatives from the border guard authorities of various Member States. This collaborative effort aimed to foster dialogue and understanding of the innovative solutions being developed to enhance border security.
The ODYSSEUS project, highlighted its groundbreaking objectives and activities emphasising the technical innovations within the project that are poised to facilitate seamless border crossings on land, water, and trains while steadfastly upholding and safeguarding the rights of travellers.
As the project nears the culmination of its first implementation year, the presentation outlined key milestones, including the collection of end-user requirements and the formulation of the initial architecture for the ODYSSEUS platform. Concurrently, cutting-edge technologies crucial to the project’s success are undergoing active development.
ODYSSEUS’ operational scenarios extend to combating illegal border crossings, addressing the trafficking of illicit goods, and mitigating identity fraud. Notably, the project places paramount importance on ensuring strict compliance with EU ethical and AI regulations, underscoring its commitment to responsible and ethical technological advancements.
The Frontex representatives hosting the event expressed their strong endorsement for the effective adoption of results from the presented projects and underscored the pivotal role of innovative technologies and Digital Virtual Passports in achieving seamless border crossings. A key takeaway from the meeting was the shared commitment to enhance collaboration between Horizon Border Management projects, with Frontex representatives being invited to the demonstration of the pilots.
