The responsible authority for the border control in Bulgaria is Chief Directorate Border Police (CDBP) within the Ministry of Interior. A centralised public service carries out the general management and coordination between the structural units at national, regional and local level.

The structure of CDBP includes: on national level – 2 Directorates (Border Control and Counteracting Crime Across the State Border), as well as Specialized Air Surveillance Squad;  on regional level – 7 Regional Directorates Border Police and on local level – 37 border police units (BPUs), 36 border crossing-points (BCP’s) and 2 Bases for Border Police Ships located in Sozopol and Vidin.

CDBP also has an adequate infrastructure, equipment and modern technical devices in its efforts to combat irregular migration, trafficking in human beings and cross-border crime.

Role in ODYSSEUS project

Chief Directorate Border Police is end user in ODYSSEUS project. CDBP will provide the appropriate facilities in order to demonstrate and validate the ODYSSEUS solution at a sea border scenario, towards ensuring the seamless border crossing in terms of identity verification and vehicle/luggage screening without stopping the travelers/vehicles.
