Union Internationale des Chemins de Fer

UIC is the worldwide professional association which represents the railway sector and promotes rail transport. Founded in 1922, it currently gathers more than 200 members on all 5 continents, among them mainly rail operators and infrastructure managers. Within UIC, the Security Division contributes to anticipate threats and vulnerabilities to the railway system, to ensure comprehensive protection of railway activities and strengthen the resilience of systems and organisations. It facilitates direct collaborative actions within the rail sector and between rail stakeholders and other critical areas.

Role in ODYSSEUS project

In ODYSSEUS, UIC acts as an overarching representative of rail end-users. UIC will help collect the needs and requirements of the railway sector with respect to border security and define the rail use cases. UIC will also lead the pilot at the train border with a particular focus on seamless passenger identity verification. Finally, UIC will facilitate the project results exploitation in its European region.
