On May 30, 2024, ODYSSEUS participated at the final conference of the BorderUAS project. ODYSSEUS, represented by SIMAVI, established synergy with BorderUAS at the beginning of the year. Both projects share a common goal of enhancing the security of Europe’s external borders.

The conference started with an overview of BorderUAS’s main objectives and achievements Comprehensive presentations and demonstrations shed light to the project’s technical results. Videos from trials were showcased demonstrating the technologies’ effectiveness in border surveillance, preventing cross-border criminal activities, and supporting search and rescue operations.

As a sister project, ODYSSEUS will build upon the experiences shared by the BorderUAS Consortium. Insights gained from the trials were executed and validated- in realistic border environment and in different weather conditions were of great importance. ODYSSEUS will also consider the project’s standardisation efforts and stakeholder engagement strategies, as both projects are targeting the same stakeholders and end users.

During the event, SIMAVI presented the objectives and targets of ODYSSEUS that aims to serve both Border Authorities and citizens. The main outcome of the project will be to propose the solution of seamless crossing at land and water EU external borders, supporting the Schengen space, reducing illegal movements of people and goods across those borders and protecting fundamental rights of travellers.

The proposed solution involves the use of Digital Virtual Passports, AI-based technologies, X-ray scanners, UAVs, and a platform to facilitate interactions between travellers and authorities. SIMAVI engaged in several discussions with end-user representatives, distributing flyers to attendees to provide them with detailed information about ODYSSEUS’s goals, methodologies, and the benefits it aims to offer for border security and seamless travel.
