On December 13, 2024, the ODYSSEUS project proudly participated in the 1st DETECTION HUB Workshop held at CETSE – Centro Tecnológico de Seguridad, Madrid, Spain. Represented by Dana Oniga, Project Manager from Software Imagination and Vision (SIMAVI), ODYSSEUS showcased its contributions to advancing unobtrusive technologies for secure and seamless border management.

As a member of the DETECTION HUB since October 2024, ODYSSEUS joined this collaborative dissemination and communication initiative, which focuses on EU-funded projects dedicated to detecting drugs, explosives, and illicit goods. The workshop provided a platform to discuss innovative approaches, share project updates, and foster meaningful connections.

Key highlights of ODYSSEUS’s participation:

  • Visibility and Outreach: ODYSSEUS was featured in the event booklet, and 30 project leaflets were distributed to stakeholders, enhancing awareness of the project’s objectives and achievements.
  • Networking Opportunities: The workshop facilitated connections with sister projects such as BAG-INTEL, MELCHIOR, PARSEC, and others, opening avenues for future collaboration.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: The event gathered representatives from law enforcement agencies, universities, government bodies, tech companies, and research institutions, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue.

Workshop Highlights:
The DETECTION HUB Workshop explored challenges faced by law enforcement agencies and innovative strategies to enhance detection capabilities. Two engaging panel discussions were held:

  1. Innovation Procurement for Detection: Bridging Theory and Practice – Focused on addressing procurement challenges and practical implementation of detection technologies.
  2. Multi-sectoral Detection of Illicit Goods: Operational Experience and Capabilities – Highlighted strategies to enhance detection capabilities and foster cross-sector collaboration.

The workshop also emphasized the broader objectives of the DETECTION HUB initiative, which aims to promote collaboration among EU-funded projects, share advancements in detection technologies, and target effective stakeholder engagement.

ODYSSEUS in the Spotlight:
ODYSSEUS was also mentioned in a presentation by Anais Manchon, Policy Officer at DG HOME, showcasing its alignment with EU-funded research priorities for civil security and border management.
