On Wednesday, October 30th, at 10:00 CET, the ODYSSEUS project was proudly represented at the I-SEAMORE Project Webinar under the theme “Use of AI in Border Security.” SQD presented on behalf of ODYSSEUS, with Philippos Orfanoudakis delivering an insightful presentation titled “AI-Driven Decision Support Systems for Border Security in ODYSSEUS.”

Key Highlights from the Presentation:

ODYSSEUS is a 3-year project funded by the EU’s Horizon Europe program, aimed at enhancing border crossing efficiency and security through AI-driven solutions, digital identity management, and UAV-based surveillance. Technologies include Digital Travel Credential (DTC), non-obtrusive vehicle scanning, and seamless identity verification. The DSS integrates data from digital passports, thermal cameras, and UAV imaging to provide comprehensive risk assessments for travelers, vehicles, and areas. This system supports border authorities in making well-informed decisions. Transparency is crucial in AI. The XAI feature explains the reasoning behind AI decisions, enhancing trust and understanding among border officers.

Technological Components:

  • Digital Identity Verification
  • Vehicle Screening
  • Decision Making

Benefits for Border Authorities:

  • Real-time alerts and risk assessments.
  • Enhanced situational awareness and decision-making.
  • Improved resource optimization and efficiency.

Benefits for Travelers:

  • Faster, seamless border crossings with digital passports.
  • Convenience and security through continuous behavioral authentication.
  • Privacy protection via GDPR compliance.

Additional Insights from the I-SEAMORE Webinar:

The I-SEAMORE Webinar on “Use of AI in Border Security” provided a platform for discussing the future of AI-driven solutions in this field. Key highlights included:

  • AI in Maritime Security: Gregor Pavlin from Thales Group discussed I-SEAMORE’s approach to improving situational awareness.
  • ODYSSEUS Project: Philippos Orfanoudakis (SQD) presented on decision support systems for seamless and secure border crossing.
